The Story of Dune Studio
Dune Studio creates small-batch ceramic work ranging from hand painted dishware to ceramic furniture. Each piece is meticulously crafted in Salt Lake City, Utah, by me, Molly Dune Wireman.
I first sat down at a pottery wheel at eight years old in my Washington state hometown. I was immediately drawn to the fragility of wheel-thrown pottery, the focus it demands, and the connection between mind and body. So, I continued making pottery whenever possible, though I chose not to formally study it. Instead, I attended Westminster University, where I studied Sociology.
During my second year of school, I began daydreaming about clay again. I missed the quiet satisfaction of forming a vessel from raw material. Soon after, I found a local studio and started making work consistently. Before long, I began selling my pieces and eventually found a used wheel to take home, slowly building a studio of my own. Pottery soon became my (almost) full-time profession.
Dune Studio was formerly known as Dancing Dunes Ceramics, a name I chose in 2020 when I officially began this business. As the work has evolved, it felt like the right moment to rebrand. While I continue to make the pieces you know and love, my practice is expanding to include ceramic furniture and larger-scale vessels. I am beyond excited about this line of work, and hope you are too.
